How Does Balance Affect Your Golf Game?

By Gene Fink

Most golf experts have different tips to help you improve your game, but they all agree on one thing. To have a good stroke, you need to maintain your balance throughout the swing. But, is keeping your balance something easy to do? If you are so tense that you're crushing your club, tensing your entire body and trying to hit the ball to hard, it's nearly impossible.

When you first start playing, many have probably told you to avoid hitting the ball too hard. Being focused and able to hit the ball with the middle of the club will give the ball more motion than a hard hit. Establishing your balance frees you to hit the ball correctly.

Keep your head as still as you can. With your eyes on the ball, this creates a foundation for keeping you balanced. It is imperative that you keep your head perfectly still and ensure it doesn't move during your swing. If you get distracted, you immediately lose focus of the ball.

Your body needs to be relaxed. Relaxing your muscles and body will prevent your head from moving during the swing.

Look in a mirror. This allows you to quickly realize that you need to relax in order to keep your head still while you swing. Since your build and movements are not the same as mine, you'll have to work out some of the details on your own. Your greatest effort should be to control your head. Doing this will let you focus on the ball and you will turn your hands at the right time.

If you can master keeping your head completely still, you'll see several problems disappear altogether. Mastering a good habit will lead to improving other parts of your shot, until you have a very good game.

A proper follow through will help you maintain your balance.

Moving your head or not being balanced can lead to problems such as swinging too hard or even pulling the club away. The amount of strength you put in your swing will be correct, and you will end up with a good swing.

Keeping your balance is one of the best things to do in order to improve your game. Of course, it won't happen overnight. Focus on maintaining your balance, and your head in one position, and in almost no time at all you will be enjoying such an improvement your friends will be asking for your secrets.
