Why You Might Need A Golf Travel Bag

By Allan Marsh

When driving the short distance to your favorite local golf course, a golf travel bag isn't necessary. Then again, anybody driving across states or preparing to fly to a different city or country would need more than just a regular golf bag for protection.

Think about it - how much do you value your clubs? Depending on your needs, you may prefer custom clubs or common generics that won't cost you much. Without our golf clubs, we wouldn't be where we are right now in golfing terms, so they are undoubtedly important to us. That's why the Pros always bring their own clubs on tour.

Enjoy playing golf on that holiday trip by doing what you can to protect your clubs from damage while traveling. Here are a few tips when trying to choose the best golf travel bag for your situation.

About Hard Travel Cases

You'll never know when your clubs could be dropped inadvertently, so these cases can come in really handy. These are the ideal choice when traveling by air. You won't be able to carry your clubs on the plane with you, so you'll want the best protection you can get with the baggage handling process involved. And sometimes they do take pleasure in being rough handlers, so be careful!

Soft Travel Cases

Made from more pliant fabric, these are more car friendly since the outer shell is more flexible. Look for bags that use double stitching as this provides a sturdier hold.

Do You Need Wheels?

Carry your golf travel bag around for a bit and you'll be wishing it had wheels. Inline wheels will make sure that you don't feel like you are walking the distance of the Boston Marathon when carrying around a heavy bag with golf clubs inside.

Handles & Straps

It is much advisable, once again, to go for handles and straps that are double stitched for a more secure hold on the load you have to carry.

Do You Need Padding?

Yes you do - foam padding can really help cushion your bag. This will absorb much of the shock from a drop or from heavy banging.

There is simply no substitute - and we repeat no substitute for owning and traveling with your own set of golf clubs. And if you want to maintain the good condition of your golf clubs, a golf travel case will do the trick and help keep your clubs from getting damaged even in extreme circumstances!
