Preparation and the Correct Outlook Might Make You a Better Golfer

By Marc Tangier

Golf is one of those addictive games that can be really fun to play, but intensely frustrating at the same time. Once you've managed to master the game it will become a lot more fun but the day-to-day grind of learning the game can seem slow going. But, there's no need to give up just yet, do these things to improve your game instead.

Golf is a relatively complex game and playing properly involves getting various factors right. However, this does not mean that you cannot turn into a great golf player if you are just beginning.

The thing to remember with clothing is that you must be wearing clothes that do not interfere with your swing. Wearing a tight fitting jacket, for example, will interfere with your ability to make beautiful drives that seem to go on forever.

The first thing everyone wants to do, when they first start playing golf, is to rush out and buy a beautiful set of shiny clubs. While clubs are very important to a good game, you first need to ask yourself if you know what a good club is. If you intend to ask the salesman in the golfing store, you are irrational if you think he will give you a suggestion based upon your best interests. The key is to first test out a number of different clubs, either by renting them or asking your friends to let your borrow theirs, until you find clubs that suit your golfing temperament. Even the head of the golf club will depend on the way that you play golf, which is why you have to play first in order to find the best clubs.

There is more involved to enhancing your game than just playing the game. One of the best ways to enhance your golf game is to watch other golfers play. You should watch what they are doing and assess everything that is done from their posture and aim to their swing. However, it is imperative that you only review other golfers that have traits such as yours. For example, you want to follow someone who has a similar build to you and whose pace and shape of swing is close to yours. Also, pick the player according to where you want to go. So, if you want to perfect a long game, then pick out somebody such as Ernie Els. Or, you can pay attention to Walter Hagen if you choose to perfect short games. If you want to get better in putting, then Phil Mickelson is the best pick.

You might not know it from the start, but being physically fit is a very important factor if you want to be a good golfer. There are five aspects that will have an impact on your game and they are balance, control, posture, strength and flexibility. For example, balance is very important to your swing. Strength is also vital because it will help you to create the power that is needed to get the ball to go where you want it to go. Before you begin any type of exercise routine, you must make sure you pick out specific exercises for golfing. By getting in better shape, you will not only be a better golfer, but you can decrease your chance of injury. This will make golfing more enjoyable and reduce the chances of your giving up.

You would be really surprised to know how much your game would perk up if you just thought about the shots. Simply sit back, when you have a little time. Run though a shot in your mind from the time that you align yourself to the time the ball lands on the green. When you use this little exercise enough times, you will realize that things are not as hard when you are playing the game. This is because you will have learned all that you have to know. You will get be able to instantly do it without thinking about it too much. Over-analyzing a shot is a mistake many beginners make. This leads them to thinking twice about the same shot. As it turns out, they are so worried about making an error that it develops into a self-fulfilling prophecy. So, to avoid this, simply visualize your shots as often as you can. You will see that your game gets so much better.

A good grip is vital to having a good golf game. If you do not learn how to do it perfectly in the very beginning, it will be a lot harder to fix in the later years. You might not even realize that your grip is bad. You'll be frustrated that your game doesn't seem to be improving, no matter how long you practice. Always remember that you must never grip the club really hard. As a matter of fact, you should do the opposite and give the club a light grip. The Vardon grip, which is used by over ninety percent of golfers, is preferred the most. This is where your right pinkie should overlap the left index finger. You will discover that a good grip can totally change your game.

Whether you make the decision to learn these on your own or get the help of a pro, these tips can help you in the long run. Don't forget that your game will perk up when you are better relaxed. So, don't stress out over the small things. Besides, you want the game to be fun.

As you can see, there are some things that can help your game that have nothing to do with playing golf. However, without a strong foundation to build upon your skills, you will not have a good chance to improve your game. So, learn how to do the basics of the game and you will be on the right path to making the completion very envious.
