The first thing you need to know are the safety rules. Unlike s full contact sports, golf has its safety issues to. Though they may be considered common sense you must ensure any new player is aware safety issues and responsibilities that are associated with the game. It is crucial that you are very aware of your surroundings at all times. Being too close to somebody who is prepared to hit the ball or having someone too close to you while playing is a recipe for disaster. If you see a person step into the way of an already moving ball, be sure to warn them of the coming danger by yelling the word "Fore". This term is known to all players as a warning to get out of the way.

The idea of golf is to hit your ball into the hole with as few swings as you possibly can. A record will be kept of each player's score and by the end of the game, the player with the least number of swings wins.

There are number of different techniques you can use to hold your golf clubs such as the interlocking grip, the overlapping grip and the baseball grip. Take the time to carefully try out each one and decide which one is best suited for you.

Don't get discouraged your first time playing. It will take time to learn all the rules and get a feel for your own ability to swing.
