Buying Golf Shoes - What To Consider

By Alice Nance

In the old days, choosing golf shoes was easy peasy, lemon squeezy. When it was only a matter of finding the right size? Now, there are nearly as many options for a golf shoe as a sneaker! So, how do you know which is right for you? Why, of course there is - with good old fashioned research, the same research you employ when studying up on other purchases, you can get somewhere. You will want to be diligent in your mission to gather data - go online and see what other people like to wear, or what other people wouldn't be caught dead wearing. When looking for a shoe, it has to be durable and easy on the feet. Remember, golf is a sport that requires a lot of walking, the shoe you choose should offer support and relief in every step.

Do not be put off by expensive footwear, because if you add a little extra for good quality, you will have a pair of shoe that stands the test of time. You don't want to be running to the sporting goods store every year when you can spend that moolah on more important things!

There are different kinds of golf shoes on the market, and you will first have to ask yourself what type of player you are. If you are the type of player who carries his/her own clubs around and walks the length of the course, you will need a top-flight shoe, unlike if you are the type of player who kicks back in the cart between holes. Once you decide the type of player you are or plan to be, the decision of which shoe to buy becomes easier.

Your next impasse may be in terms of spikes. Which do you prefer, hard or soft spike shoes? It would all depend on where you play, but usually it will not be up to you to decide. These days, hard spikes are a no-no on the golf course, because they would usually ruin the grass on the course. Don't worry that much about soft spike shoes - you'll get used to them eventually, and when all is said and done, everyone and their cousin may be wearing them.

When researching, you can gather data on the Internet, all fine and dandy, but there is nothing better than venturing out, popping into the store, and trying on some golf shoes. This isn't much different from other types shoes - different brands have different characteristics and different fits, so choose wisely and carefully. If you are the type of person who simply golfs for leisure, then you may not want to put in a huge surplus of cash into shoes. On the other hand, if you are passionate about the game and play often, it's wise to purchase golf shoes that will last you a good long time.
