Tennis Tips For A Better Game

By Julia Smith

Tennis is a fast game that can be played with 2 or 4 players in one court. A 2-player game is called a singles match while a game with 4 players is called a doubles match. You get to score when you hit the ball and your opponent is unable to return the shot. Learning simple tennis tips can help you improve your game.

The first thing you should master is how to hold a tennis racket. Before hitting the ball, it is important to hold the racket properly and comfortably. If you are just about to buy your own racket, try out some rackets to see which one gives you the best grip. Try swinging the racket at the store to see if it feels good.

You can also tell if the racket is too heavy or too light if you do a few practice swings. Before swinging the racket, figure out a comfortable grip. There are typically 2 ways to hold a racket. One is the Eastern grip which looks and feels like a handshake. The Western grip is done by holding your racket sideways.

Pro tennis player sometimes hold the racket between the Eastern and Western grip with a tilt and angle that produces a good spin. The tilt makes the ball spin around which makes it more difficult for the opponent to return your shot. Holding your racket this way will require less effort on your part to make the balls spin.

To put more power into a shot, you need to maintain a loose open stance. This lets you use your lower body to create a strong shot. Those who keep their body tightly facing front will not be able to move much to put more power into the swing. This will entail using only your upper body and arms to put force into a swing.

Your whole body must move with your arms when you swing at the ball in a synchronized method. Hit the ball as it slopes downward, not when your ball is too high. Hitting a ball that is still too high will produce a lobby that your opponent can easily hit back. Make sure you also hit the ball at an ideal angle.

Making your ball spin is one of the most effective tennis tips you can follow. If your ball is spinning, your opponent will have a more difficult time returning the shot. If he ever does hit the ball, it will likely be an errant shot.
