Necessary Equipment for New Golfers

By Athena Hunter

If you watch golf channels, you will see various beginner golf equipment pieces and sets advertised. These packages usually include equipment that beginning golfers won't really benefit from or aren't ready to use, unfortunately. If you're truly interested in finding beginner golf equipment to help you improve your game, it is a good idea to start with a few basics and then add pieces to your inventory as you become better at the game and more certain that you're going to stick with it.

The first piece of equipment you should invest in is a good pair of golf shoes. Your shoes should fit well and be comfortable to wear because you spend a lot of time on your feet during a game of golf. To avoid being uncomfortable during your first few games while breaking in your shoes, try wearing them off the course or to the driving range first. Make sure also that the spikes on the shoes are appropriate for the course where you'll be playing most of the time. As an example, most courses in the U.S. require soft spike shoes.

Your next investment should be in a golf ball finder. With special eyeglasses, your ball will show up brighter because the grass is eliminated from your field of vision. Golf ball finders help beginners for two reasons. First, this will help you lose fewer balls as you learn the game. The other reason is they help you keep track of where your ball goes after you hit it. It can also be used to identify problems with your swing if you have issues with your ball veering left or right of where you aimed it.

The final thing to invest in is a good set of beginner's golf clubs. When you're first learning the game is not the time to buy the priciest set of clubs available. You don't know at first if you need to be using steel or flexible shafts. The best height for you is something else you won't know at first. You really aren't ready to even identify if you need gloves that will help you achieve greater control over the ball or greater distance or if you need clubs that will help you achieve a little bit of both.

The items mentioned above are essential to a good game of golf. You need all the help you can get when you first take up the game of golf. These pieces of golf equipment are not expensive but will have a huge impact on the quality of your game. You will be able to save for the larger investments you'll need later by investing in the smaller pieces of necessary equipment now.
