How to Choose the Right Beginner Golf Equipment

By Athena Hunter

You don't need as much equipment as you'd think when you first start golfing. There are a lot of fancy gadgets that look fun to try but you won't need those until you've learned the game more. Until then, you really can't benefit from some of the more advanced pieces of golf equipment anyway. As you assemble your beginning golf kit, keep the following important pieces in mind.

The first piece of equipment you should invest in is a golf bag. While this isn't the cheapest piece of equipment you'll come across, it is a worthwhile investment if you plan to play the game for a long time. This is the one piece of equipment that carries around all the others. You'll need to keep a few things in mind when comparing brands, styles, and prices. First, make sure the bag is comfortable to carry around. Second, you'll need to decide if you want a bag that has a built-in stand, which is recommended if you plan to walk rather than rent a cart or hire a caddy when you play.

Golf club head covers are also important to buy. You're investing time and money into assembling a good set of golf clubs. Even a beginners set of golf clubs can easily set you back a few hundred dollars. You need to protect that investment in order to lengthen the life and usefulness of your clubs by investing in quality head covers to protect them from banging in to one another in the bag, the back of your closet, and during the drive to and from the golf course.

There are all kinds of covers available from the utilitarian to the whimsical so have fun with this purchase and let it say something about your own personal style.

You can add years of enjoyment to your game by buying the right equipment but it doesn't have to cost a fortune. Whether you're just learning golf or returning to it, it can be easy to get distracted by the fancy bells and whistles that are now available. Sticking with the beginner golf equipment discussed above will leave you in great shape.
