Golf Equipment All Amateurs Should Have

By Athena Hunter

As people take up the game of golf, many will first go on an unnecessary shopping spree. There are some pieces of golf equipment and/or gear that are absolutely essential for helping you get your game off on the right foot. The products advertised in infomercials won't necessarily be able to help improve your game, however. Most of these pieces of equipment will only hurt your wallet, not help your game. You really need to focus on a few key pieces of golf equipment in the beginning and then you make the move to more advanced, and expensive purchases.

The first piece of equipment you should invest in is a good pair of golf shoes. You'll be spending a lot of time on your feet as you play a game of golf so make sure the shoes you purchase fit your feet and are comfortable to wear. Your first few games may be uncomfortable as you break in your shoes but you can minimize this by wearing them off the course or to the driving range first. Make sure also that the spikes on the shoes are appropriate for the course where you'll be playing most of the time. Soft spike shoes are required for most courses in the U.S.

Having ball markers is also important.

A golf ball finder is another wise investment. Special eyeglasses make it easier to spot your ball by eliminating the grass from your view. There are two main reasons that a golf ball finder is helpful for beginners. First, this will help you lose fewer balls as you learn the game. You will be better able to see where your ball goes after you hit it, as well. If your ball consistently veers to the left or right of where you aim, it will also help you identify any problems with your swing.

The final thing to invest in is a good set of beginner's golf clubs. When you first start golfing is not the right time to invest in the priciest set of golf clubs available. When learning the game, you don't know if you need steel shafts or flexible shafts. The best height is something else you won't know. As a beginner, you're not ready to decide if a pair of gloves or new clubs will help you gain more control and get better distance.

Start small when you buy starter golf equipment. You can add more expensive pieces as you learn the game more and work on building a set that will help you accomplish your goals on the course. Follow these tips to get the most value for your money when you first begin golfing.
