Golf Driver Swing: Stop Slicing

By Sam Kinsley

To have the ability to drive the golf ball straight using your golf driver from the tee box is really important, since it will set the tone for the entire hole that you're on. A superb golf driver swing can easily boost your chance to score a "Birdie" or perhapscan also end up in a large mess if you slice the golf ball into the rough or perhaps out of bounds. Slicing the ball is generally a problem with just about all levels of golfers, starting from a novice to a pro. Slicing depends upon the kinematics of the golf shot. The rotational motion of the ball imparts a force making the ball to contour to right or left in midair leading to slicing.

Although it is one of the main problems that a lot of golfers have, it is usually solved by consistent practice along with perfected techniques. Here are some tips that can be employed to prevent slicing while you take the all-important golf driver swing.

1. Griping The Golf Driver

Grip the club by positioning the left thumb in line with the shaft of the club, and curl the other fingers around the shaft so that they are aiming towards the right eye. Grip the golf club solidly and when you hold the club in place, the 1st three knuckles of the left-hand ought to be visible. Your forefinger and thumb ought to build a 'V' formation that is acute enough in order for the forefinger points to your right shoulder. This type of golf club grip is known as a strong grip, and it is essential to have a strong grip and not a weak or a neutral golf grip to prevent slicing the golf ball.

2. The Angle Of The Backswing And Downswing

Ensure, when you take your stance, you maintain adequate distance in between the golf ball and your body so it does not hinder your backswing or downswing. If you ever avoid this, the backswing will be angled in or out from the target making the ball to spin while it's in mid-air, thus resulting in a slice. Don't forget, don't turn your hips throughout the downswing, and always try to strike the ball down the target line. You can do this if the backswing and downswing keep to the target line. Furthermore, don't forget that while taking your position, keep both of your shoulders parallel to the target line.

3. The Face Of The Golf Club Head

The face of the club head should be perpendicular to the target line. Should it be tilted, the golf ball is going to move off to the right or left based on the actual angle generating a slice or a hook. So, it is crucial that the face is perpendicular to the target line when you're taking a golf driver swing.

4. Drills To Ensure That You Swing Along The Target Line

Keep a spare golf club flat on the ground in a way that it coincides with the target line. Take several practice swings by simply trying to swing the golf club in line over the horizontal club. Keep training until you are able to do it consistently.

Place 4 balls in a manner that the four golf balls form a 'X' with the ball within the middle to be hit. The middle golf ball should be on the target line. Keep all the balls 2-3 inches away from the middle ball. At this point, try to strike the middle golf ball with out touching the other balls. If you successfully do so in a consistent manner, you'll definitely overcome your slicing issue.

With consistent practice, slicing the ball won't be an issue anymore and you'll be ready to strike the golf ball straight and you will certainly have a excellent golf driver swing which will help you to shoot lower scores.
