Dundee is a great place for golf.

By Martin Fourfields

Should you prefer parkland or links golf Dundee is an ideal place to start your tour of famous courses. Not only is Dundee ideal for golfers it also caters for visitors from abroad who wish to trace their roots. Due to the history of the industry in the city many people travelled the world developing new businesses concerned with the business of the city. Such as the production of Jute, whaling and printing, not to mention Jam and Dundee Cake. More recently the oil industry is drawing people to the area especially with the natural dock area being easily accessible.

Two of the most famous courses in the world of golf are close to the city. Carnoustie provides a challenge and St Andrews Old Course is the one all golfers wish to play at least once. St Andrews also has a world renowned university with certain links to royalty. The town is very traditional and has a wonderful atmosphere. There are lots of interesting places to grab a bite to eat or spend a little more time and indulge in a longer lunch or dinner. As one would expect there are many opportunities to pick up a golf related memento to remind you of where you have been.

All of the golf courses I have visited and played have welcomed visitors and groups. Each course has been in excellent condition, the green keepers take a great deal of pride in their work, and it shows. It takes a great deal of time and energy to maintain the courses and to keep the greens and fairways in such a wonderful condition as to make it a pleasure to step out and take that first shot down the first fairway.

Membership of many golf courses is available yearly although some do have a waiting list. A few, especially the major golf clubs, with several years wait before membership is available. However there are many golf clubs throughout Scotland that would welcome new members and the courses all provide their own unique challenge.

Scotland is the home of golf and still provides the best experience to golfers of all standards

Today's golfers expect great places to stay and fantastic golf courses. Dundee is the place to stay and Scotland is the place to play.
