Due to the history of the industry in the city many people travelled the world developing new businesses concerned with the business of the city. Such as the production of Jute, whaling and printing, not to mention Jam and Dundee Cake. More recently the oil industry is drawing people to the area especially with the natural dock area being easily accessible.

St Andrews also has a world renowned university with certain links to royalty. The town is very traditional and has a wonderful atmosphere. Each course has been in excellent condition, the green keepers take a great deal of pride in their work, and it shows. It takes a great deal of time and energy to maintain the courses and to keep the greens and fairways in such a wonderful condition as to make it a pleasure to step out and take that first shot down the first fairway.
Membership of many golf courses is available yearly although some do have a waiting list. A few, especially the major golf clubs, with several years wait before membership is available. However there are many golf clubs throughout Scotland that would welcome new members and the courses all provide their own unique challenge.
