Important Information for New Golfers

By John Willis

Golf is one of those addictive games that can be amazingly fun or intensely frustrating. Once you've managed to master the game it will become a lot more fun but the day-to-day grind of learning the game can seem slow going. Don't give up though; make these changes in the way you play your game instead.

The first thing that everybody wants to do when they first start golfing is to run out and purchase an expensive set of golf clubs. Although golf clubs are a very important aspect of golfing, you must ask yourself if you are familiar with what a good golf club looks like. If you plan to ask the golfing salesman for his recommendation , then you are naive if you think he will give you a suggestion that will help you. The key is to first take the time to try out a number of clubs by either renting them out or borrowing them until you find the ones that best fit your golfing disposition. Even the shape of the club head will depend on your style of play, which is why only experience will help you find the best clubs.

You might not see it at the start, but being in good physical shape is important if you want to be a good golfer. The five key elements that will have an effect on your game are balance, control, posture, strength and flexibility. For example, balance is very important to your swing. As is strength, which will help you generate the power needed to get the ball where you want it to go. Before you start any form of exercise routine, you need to make sure that you choose exercises specific to golfing. By getting in shape physically, you can not only improve your golf game, but you can reduce your chance of physical injury. This will make the experience more enjoyable and reducing the likelihood of you wanting to give up.

A good grip is critical to playing a good game of golf. If you do not master it from the start, it will be hard to master during the later years. You might not even realize that your grip is bad. You will be upset when your game does not get any better, even when you work very hard at it. One thing to keep in mind is that you should never over grip the club. In fact, you should do the opposite and grip the club very lightly. One of the most well liked grips, which is used by more than ninety percent of golfers is the Vardon grip. With this grip, your pinkie should overlap the left index finger. You will find that a good grip can make a big difference to your game.

As you can tell, there are some important aspects that can help you improve your golf game, but they don't have anything to do with playing the game itself. However, without a good base for building up your skills, you do not have a good opportunity for making your game better. So, get the basics right and then you will be well on your way to becoming the envy of golfers everywhere!
