Golf Courses In Houston Texas: Where To Look

By Sheena Hernandez

If you are looking to find golf courses in Houston Texas, then you are unlikely to be disappointed with what is on offer. A range of options exists for the golfer, whether resident in the city or just visiting.

The Wildcat Golf Club is the site for two of the city's finest courses, and is situated only 12 miles from the center of the city. Here, there are a 'Lakes' and a 'Highland' course. Both are well-appointed 18 hole efforts which stretch over nearly 7,000 yards. The club is located on Almeda Road.

Private courses require membership, with types of membership classed as either 'equity' or 'non-equity'. These are specific, technical terms for the type of membership on offer, and there are many of each kind of course in the area. These are likelier to be played by city residents as opposed to visitors.

One highly exclusive private course (non-equity) can be found at the River Oaks Country Club. With a lay-out created by Donald J. Ross, this course has a slope rating of 126, and has been turfed with Bermuda grass. River Oaks Boulevard is where it can be found.

Sixteen miles from the center of the city is the Houston Country Club, which operates one of the most-highly rated clubs in the area. This is a private equity club and players should bear in mind its exclusive nature if they are looking to play there.

A good municipal course is the Glenbrook Club, a four-mile drive from downtown. This has 18 holes with a par of 71, and is situated at N Bayou Drive.

Younger people who are keen on the game can play at a junior facility known as the First Tee Junior Golf Course. This has been operating for 11 years now at FM Law Park, with a par-34, nine-hole course.

A range of other options are of course available in a city as vibrant as this one in Texas. The only way to check them all out is to get your clubs out of the closet, dust off those checked trousers and get yourself there. Read more about: golf courses in houston texas
