Three Suggestions to Play a Better Golf Game

By Shane Lewis

Golf is one of those games that can be a lot of fun and frustration - sometimes at the same time. It's all wonderful once you master the game but getting there is a slow process that can be extremely frustrating. Instead of giving up on golf, it's a better idea to make these changes in your game instead.

The first step to developing a better golf game is to ensure that you have the proper equipment. This is not saying that you should have the most expensive equipment available. Simply put, if you are a newbie, you should purchase the least expensive equipment available. These should be preferably from a garage sale, until you can figure out which clubs are best suited to your style of play. For example, if you need lighter clubs that are easier to swing, you should buy clubs that have graphite shafts. But, you need to remember that the cheapest are steel shaft clubs. The only way to select the right set of clubs is to test them, even if this means trying out your friends golf clubs while you are out golfing. Once you have figured out which clubs suit you, then you can invest in a customized set of professional golf clubs.

Balance is the most important element of a good swing. If you're having trouble staying on your feet you're going to have a hard time hitting the ball. You'll be able to hit the ball every time though if you are able to learn how to pivot around a single point. This single point is usually considered to be located 3 inches below the point where your collarbones meet at the base of your neck. This is the place or point that is fixed and the rest of your body should pivot around it. If you're balance is not that good, then consider a golf-specific exercise routine to improve it. You should also incorporate exercises aimed at improving your strength and flexibility as well, which will help improve the distance of your shot as well as your swing.

A good grip is essential to a good golf game. If you don't master it properly in the beginning, you will have a tough time changing it later on. You might not even notice that you have an improper grip. You will become frustrated when your game does not appear to improve, even when you practice a lot. Always keep in mind that you should never put too much of a grip on the club. In fact, you should only grip your club lightly.

Clearly, there are many factors involved in learning to play golf and improving your game. With persistence and dedication, the combined will help you to become an ideal golf player. However, do not think that you will become great instantly because even the professionals take many years to get to this level. If you focus on your game, don't forget to enjoy yourself and calm down, then you will see your game get better. This will happen consistently until you can be on the golf course and others are envious of you.
