New To Golf? What You Must Learn About Golf Clothing

By Moglori Sparia

Golf is quite unlike other sports in many ways, including apparel. A good number of golf courses have special golf clothing requirements. Golf attire changes too, according to the weather. For example during the rains a waterproof coat, trousers and headgear will be required

During summer the choice clothing should include short sleeved polos, sunglasses and visors are the common choice. You can also wear shorts but it is good to check with the course you intend to play at.

As indicated earlier, the choice of clothing is mostly determined by the dress code at the course. It is therefore important to learn what is acceptable and what is not. In most courses, the players are required to wear polo shirts, golf shirts or other collared shirts. This means that button down shirts and tennis shirts might also be accepted. However, one should check with the club before wearing these.

For the bottoms, men are supposed to wear long trousers or slacks. Women on the other hand can wear skirts, knee length shorts and culottes. Golf shoes are also a must for those playing as they help one keep balance when making a swing.

When choosing golf clothing, one should note that it is mostly focused on performance rather than making fashion statements. However, modern clothing has been designed to merge both style and performance needs. This was not always the case as clothing used in earlier days was usually nerdy. This however changed with the entry of young professional golf players.

Besides the key golf clothing, other trimmings may be had as well, such as sunglasses, peak caps and hats to shield one from the sunshine during the warm season. Socks may also be included under trimmings. Although as far as women are concerned, socks are drawn up to their ankles; men may opt to use whatever length they like. The purpose of using socks is for ease, thereby avoiding any blisters developing on the feet.
