Important Considerations While Selecting Good Golf Range Finders

By Moglori Sparia

A golf range finder is a very important tool to any golfer. It helps measure the actual distance between the point you are and the target or obstacle point. With a range finder, you can be able to get a clearer picture of such distances without relying on your caddie to measure the distance. This means that golf range finders help determine the club choice and strategy for the shot.

In spite of its benefits, a number of players question the effectiveness of range finders, that whether or not they deliver what they promise. And the most honest answer to this question is yes for some range finders and no for others. This clearly indicates that the effectiveness depends upon your selection of golf range finders. Basically range finders are classified into two types, the laser and GPS range finders.

The laser finders are better because they offer more accuracy and do not require internet connectivity to update any changes in the course specifications. Normally they are ready to use straight from the box as they require no tune-ups after purchase.

Although the laser option provides more accuracy, it does not mean that you should go for any option offered in the market as long as it uses laser technology. Normally, the quality of the output is determined the cost. Those very cheap units might not offer the best quality hence it is good to opt for those in the middle to high price ranges.

This does not however mean that anybody should go for anything that uses laser technology in the market. On the other hand, should one play for leisure, the golf range finders that include slope and gradient are more appropriate for practicing. Another factor to consider is the inclusion of targeting and magnification options. These help one understand how a targeting area looks like and prevents the golfer from directing the shots through hazardous areas.

If you are more into leisure playing or prefer golf practice, then you could select golf range finders that provide measurements of gradient and slope. But, since such range finders are prohibited in most of the tournaments, one should avoid depending upon them excessively.
