Your Golf Slice Gone Right

By Steven Freeport

The process of correcting a golf slice while learning how to play golf requires patience and effort. Luckily, here are the common reasons why golf slice occurs and what you could do to resolve it. There is a large number of reasons why you keep ending up with a ball flying to the side. However, a reason more common than the others is the address.

Usually, golf players use the square stance characterized by aligned feet, hips and shoulders to the target. With this stance in use to address, a forward motion of the left feet will cause the club face to open upon striking the ball leading to that undesired slice. The sign you should be looking for is the left foot precisely positioned below the left shoulder. The same applies for the hips in relation to the shoulder. A square posture is required for a proper shot. After the address, check your grip. It is a common misconception especially among beginners that you need to tightly hold the club. However, it always ends up in an opened club head which will only send the ball to the far right. On the other extreme, a weak hold of club will result in the head rocking towards striking the ball. The outcome is also a golf slice.

When learning how to play golf and choosing a golf club, you should always aim for a neutral grip. A player can confirm that he has a neutral grip if he sees two or three knuckles on his left hand. Otherwise, you are holding the club the wrong way. With this, your hands will turn into neutral position as you enter the strike zone. This too, will open the club face which leads to a golf slice. In readjusting your hands, only change the position of the hands until two or three knuckles are showing on the left hand. Once you have, practice sending a few ball across the range to check if this is much better. Something as simple as changing the way you are holding the club could be the solution to your slice problems. Try as hard as you can to find the correct grip because once you have found it, you just might be using it as a pro.

Make sure you look at your swing tempo. A common fault among golfers is that they use their arms for power to get great distance. This is wrong almost all the time. When you use your arm, then you are letting your hands overtake everything else which results in an open club face. You should always start your movements smoothly and relaxed so that the rest will be of the same manner. Do not jerk the club when reaching the maximum height of your backswing. Allow your hips to initiate the downswing and not your hands. The divot is also a good sign to use in fixing that slice. If it is aiming to the far side, you need to go back to your stance at address. Align your feet, hips and shoulder to the direction you want the ball to go. Find out the reason behind that golf slice to be able to correct it. It may take quite some time and effort but endure the work. In the end, it will all be worth it.

Follow the above tips and you will soon find your game improving to new levels.
