Golf Sponsor Signs Come In Colors

By Kenny Johnson

The generosity of sponsors is what makes tournaments possible and the tiny golf sponsor signs may be on their way out to be replaced with a new generation of sponsor material. Fortunately for tournament organizers and golf fans, golf sponsors are not only believers in the cause, and are willing to sponsor tournaments when they receive very little in return. Well that is the nature of charity but in return for their generosity, most tournament organizers reward sponsors with black and white signs that are close to invisible.

The hole signs that are commonly offered to local businesses are generally very small printed black and white cards placed near the hole. Because they are all printed with the same font, and black text on white cards there is nothing that makes one sign distinguishable from any other. While most businesses admit they support the cause they donate to, most admit they would prefer a more individualized hole sign.

Sponsors almost always strongly believe in and support the causes they sponsor. The signs are sold to sponsors in order to help take the burden of hosting from an organization which could ill afford it and spread it around. The idea works and sponsors are usually plentiful for these events but most sponsors would donate more in order to receive a more personalized sign.

Commercially available sponsor signs for tournaments come in many styles, colors and with many types of materials and can be ordered to match supporting business in the logo and colors. Though definitely more expensive than a printed card on white paper, custom signs can pay for themselves. So, instead of raising overhead costs custom signs may actually lower them because donors pay more for these.

Businesses which are sponsor golf tournaments regularly may order their own custom sponsor signs. While this might be acceptable with some tournament organizers, others may have problems with it. On the other hand, a tournament might actually increase their sponsorship by offering signs that were customized at a higher price in order to defray the increased cost of these signs.

While tournaments in golf observe a strict code of etiquette and the small signs beside a hole are proof of that. Other sports might permit distracting billboards the sport of golf is not the place for that. A custom sponsor sign can be as discrete as necessary but it also can be of more value in terms of advertisement to the sponsor.

While traditional golf signs for sponsors serve a purpose, custom signs may serve the purpose much better. In return for a more memorable thank you sign beside the hole the sponsor donates more money to the tournament or cause. In that scenario, both the organizers and the sponsor are winners.
