Generally called "banana ball", a golf slice is a shot that is characterized by the golf ball curving into a shape of a banana. The ball will start to the left of the target, but start to curve to the right of the target. This is usually for right-handed golf players. For golfers who are left-handed, the reverse will occur. So, this means that right-handed golfer's shot will curve to the right and left-handed golfer's shot will curve to the left. Initially, the shot may seem straight, but the ball will start to curve to the another direction when it begins to slow down.

The slice trajectory has attained its term as the "banana ball." This shot is not purposely done by the golfers and it is the common miss-hit among amateurs. Yet, from time to time, professional players do also experience this type of shot.

There are several common causes why a golf slice happens. Read on to discover a few causes of golf slices.

If you set your golf ball too far forward in the swing, it is most likely that your shot will result in a slice. If you do this, you will open up your shoulders and pull the club face towards the inside in the end of the swing. So to steer clear of this, you have to position your golf ball in front of the midpoint of your stance. Then as you drop the club to hit the ball, you must make certain that your shoulders are parallel to the imaginary line between the target and the ball.

One more reason why your shot will end up in a slice is when you strike the ball with an open face club. It will cause your ball to veer to the right if you are a right-handed golfer. To avoid this from happening, you have to avoid having the head of your club to be positioned angled back and right of the ball.

Weight transfer also takes on a major part in the occurrence of golf slices . When you neglect to transfer your weight from the back of your foot to the front foot during the swing, it will result in the slice. The club will tend not to close and strike the ball properly. In order to avoid such slices, you should practice hitting the golf ball whilst stepping forward on the follow through. You have to take few steps to the ball after making the swing.

An incorrect grip of your club will also result in a slice. It's not effective if you hold or grip your club too tightly or loosely. If you squeeze too tightly, your arms and shoulders will probably be so tensed and will make you pull the club towards your body on the swing. While on the other hand, a weak grip will turn in your hands and will tend to open up the club face on the swing. This is the very reason why the appropriate grip plays an important role in getting rid of golf slices.

There are more causes of golf slices that many golfers practice in the course. The aforementioned causes are the most common. If you are doing at least one of them, you must correct them as soon as possible in order to save you from having a bad game!!!
