The Effective Way To Improve Your Golf Swing

By Lorrie Gallow

While it is true that strength is needed when you play golf, you should not overlook the fact that how exactly you swing is more important. Hitting the ball harder is not the only thing either that can improve your golf swing, you may also use items like power bands to help you achieve proper balance and coordination for a perfect swing. Yes, you can still hit the ball far without minding good swinging techniques but it most likely land on either side of the fairway. Additionally, relying only on strength when swinging will most likely get your wrist or back injured after a while.

If you are keen on improving your golf swing for real, the first thing you need to master is your stance. Consider some physics and recognize that you cannot hit the ball far if your feet are too close to each other (try it if you like). When you are holding the driver therefore, always spread your feet to shoulder width. Bring those feet closer and closer as you move through your irons.

Correct position for hands should also be observed when starting your backswing. You would have to point your thumbs directly downwards in front of you when gripping the club. Do the hitchhiker position where your thumbs are pointed up to the sky when club is at your waist level.

On the backswing, try to keep the right knee, right leg and right hip solid but with a minimal flex, and vice versa for the left-handed players. Imagine this stiffer leg and hip as your pivot, and coil your upper body against that. When you reach the top of the backswing, the weight should be on the inside of the right foot. However, don?t let the left leg collapse. Just let it follow your movement naturally.

Now for the transition. Start your backswing, coil up your body, pause for a fraction of a second at the top, then start the downswing. Remember these as a sort of mantra that you must do rhythmically. Never swing too fast. Always maintain that same deliberate rhythmic pacing. This will prevent jerking, and cocking the wrist too soon.

When doing the down swing have your left hip move naturally to the left without moving your arms in advance of your body. The arms and body should move like one unit as long as you can until it reaches your waist. Slightly tilt your body to the right as needed. Then keep in mind to hit through the ball and not simply stop movement dead when striking it. Have the swing carry on naturally.

The last thing to keep in mind is that consistency matters most while playing golf. If you master one kind of swing, you must be able to repeat it every single time in order to have a good and reliable swing that will certainly improve your game. But to be consistent in your swing requires paying attention to each detail in swinging. Take note of each detail and have each corrected at a time. Through practicing diligently, you can rest assured that you will see progress if only you stay with it long enough to actually see some results.
