Stop Ball Topping In Its Tracks!

By Brett Ferris

If you are having trouble with miss hitting the golf ball, you will want to learn how to stop topping your golf ball once and for all. There are some simple things you could to do fix this quickly.

It can be a bit embarrassing to have your ball only go a few feet, when you had visions of it flying down the fairway. You need to understand why this is happening in the first place. One of the big reasons is that by swinging steeply you inadvertently hit the ground on the down swing before you make contact with the ball. One reason is because when you hit the ball, you only hit the top of it, causing it to barely move.

This is why you and other golfers really need to learn how to stop topping your golf ball.

The best way to stop topping a ball is to watch a few things the next time you are out on the golf course. When on your downswing, make contact with the lower portion of the golf ball by throwing the club head at it. You should shoot for having your exit line parallel to your target line. With practice this will become second nature to you. If you are raising up before hitting the ball, try to keep your knees relaxed and bent. Learning to swing through the ball is very important. Your right shoulder should turn in the direction towards your chin. If your swing is too steep then you will need to adjust your shoulders to stop topping a golf ball effectively. When standing in the address position make sure that your right shoulder is lower than your left.

By taking the time to correct any errors, you will correct your stance and therefore have a more centered swing.

This in turn will create a more powerful hitting motion to get you further down the fairway.

Be sure to make time to practice at the driving range. Developing a smooth swinging motion is critical to playing well. Remember that the club is what will get the ball into the air. When practicing your swing, practice it at different speeds. Most golfers realize that once they correct their speed issue, they stop topping the ball. Swing your golf club rapidly, without stopping. You may need to work a bit in order to keep your balance. After you have done this many times again and again, step up to the ball with the same posture and hit it. You should find that you are hitting the ball more solidly.

So if you want to stop Topping a golf ball and have your ball fly down the fairway and not just jump a few dozen feet, practice your swinging technique. So instead of feeling frustrated and embarrassed, you will feel proud of the improvements you have made.
