The Golf Swing and How to Improve It

By Jeremy Winters

Golfers in most cases learn their golf swing in one of two different ways - either through trial and error, or through having instruction. The failings of the first approach are obvious, despite the fact that there's a trend for many to opt for this strategy on the basis that they have learned to play other sports activities in this way. Nonetheless, golf is such a difficult sport to master that the only acceptable path to being successful is through lessons.

However, while practising in your own home, bear in mind the following elements. The very first and most significant fact is that the golf swing isn't in fact capable to be learned in one go. Instead, there are different parts which collectively shape the swing. The two main elements are those of the rotating of the body and also the swinging of your arms.

Rotating of the body: To achieve an efficient swing, it's vital that you move the body in a near to horizontal plane. This plane has to be at a right angle to the spinal column across the line of your shoulders.

Swinging of the arms: Your arm swing is as nearly as possible targeted at the ball. The body turns to allow your arms to swing, with the shoulders remaining as relaxed as possible in order that the whole upper torso moves in a single fluid motion.

While in theory the combination of these factors appears fairly uncomplicated, in fact it's really difficult to efficiently integrate these two movements. In the golf swing itself, there are two main factors to concentrate on, those of the backswing and the downswing. As the names suggest, your backswing is the part when the club is raised to the right of your body (for right handed golfers) from your beginning position, with the downswing being the time period when the club is brought down for making contact with the ball.

When making your backswing, the objective is for your club to move in a circular orbit around the golfer. The entire body must be turned properly to be able to make adequate room for the club to move in and up. From the top of your swing, the downswing will begin. The hips should be slid from back to left, which tightens up the torso permitting you to obtain far more power and also assisting the club to stay on the right track.

In general, when professionally mastered, a golf swing seems to be one fluid effortless motion. Nevertheless, in actuality, it is a complicated combination of the turning of the body and the swinging of the arms in addition to the backswing and downswing linking together. Golf is not an easy sport, but with practice and lessons, you are going to quickly achieve a fair handicap, making your game all the more fun.
