Desert Princess Golf and Country Club

By Mitchell Sussman

If you are looking for a place to play a golf with the whole family while on your next vacation to Palm Springs you might consider trying the Desert Princess Golf and Country Club in neighboring Cathedral City.

My search led me to the Desert Princess Golf and Country Club.

The Desert Princes Golf and Country Club is just outside of Palm Springs has three beautiful 9-hole courses, with four sets of tees that offer a golf experience for golfers with all different levels of skill.

Golf architect David Rainville designed all three of the courses. While similar in style each of the three offers a slightly different style of play.

The majestic snow - capped San Jacinto Mountains can be seen in the distance making this a very picturesque setting in which to play golf There are fruit tree lining the course as well as Adobe town houses. On the day that we were out the sun was shining bright and temperature was in the mid - 70's.

The first of the courses is the Lagos course. Heavily laden with water on six of the nine holes, a miss hit and you will quickly find yourself fishing for golf balls.

The Vista course offers a variety of link styles with rolling fairways. On the day that I played, I forgot my range finder and had a little bit of trouble gauging the distance often finding myself over shooting the green.

The third course, El Cielo, is much like the Lagos in that there is water on eight of the nine holes.

The Desert Princess has a nice pro shop where I rented clubs for my youngest daughter as well as a driving range. Adjacent to the course is a tennis facility with about a dozen lighted courts operated by Charlie Moore one of the local tennis pros.

A spa and work out facility are also on property next to the tennis facility. The adjacent Doral hotel has a restaurant with the view of the course and the snow - capped mountains and is perfect spot to end the day.
