If we look carefully at the golf manufacturing industry, it is clear that many golfers wear a traditional 'work' or 'dress' type of golf shoe to when they step onto the course. This style of golf shoe is so named because it really does look more like something that is worn to work, rather than a regular a tennis shoe. This variety of shoe may often be more difficult to play in because it lacks the flexibility of a more "athletic" type of golf shoe. This more dressy variety of shoe lacks flexibility and, to some extent the comfort of the "tennis shoe" style.

Even though traditional golf shoes are often stiffer other less expensive models, they may actually be more difficult to play in. A pair of discount golf shoes may have the advantage of allowing the golfer to "feel" the ground, which can improve balance. It is understood that a swing can be optimized for both distance and accuracy if the golfer is in balance.

Finding the bargains that provide the quality of the more expensive pair of golf shoes requires that the golfer to his or her homework. Check the bottom of the golf shoe. Does the shoe use a soft spike made of plastic or rubber? Does it have ridges? When one looks at the top of the shoe, is it make of leather or some porous material that will "leak" when playing in the rain. Have you tried on the shoe to determine if they are sized properly for wide or narrow feet? Let your feet be the judge. If it hurts, don't buy it.

Where can you start your research? The internet is a great place to start. Sites like Amazon, eBay and Yahoo provide a substantial amount of information for those interested in a certain brand or style. For example, Amazon has a rating section where you can read what others who have purchased the shoes have said - good and bad. There is also a star rating of the seller and one should only consider those sites with rankings in the high nineties. Another great place to start is to purchase a golf magazine or better yet go to the library and check out one or more of these magazines.

While finding the right shoe is not just a matter of price, it is important to do your homework to find the brand and model of shoe that works for you so that you can then confidently find the best deal. In the process, fit is among the most important factors. The internet is, by far, the best place the get the best information about what shoe will work for you.
