Golf is a game that matches raw exertion with mental discipline, and can be enjoyed during all phases of life, from youth to old age. Younger individuals in particular may learn from the challenges of the game, but it is important for kids to first learn the fundamentals of golf from expert teachers at junior golf camps. The sport is much more than simply picking up a club and sending a ball into a hole. The links present a large open green space for rookies to develop their swing, work on their handicap - and learn how to maintain their cool during the inevitable detours into the water features and sand traps on the course.

Anyone that has ever picked up a club is aware that a good swing does not occur without practice. Golf camps for kids primarily focus on the physical fundamentals of the game, such as developing the proper grip on the club, honing the swing and working on the follow through. Getting this one-on-one attention from skilled instructors may make a big difference in a young person's game, and can turn a poor slice into a powerful shot down the green.

As soon as the basics are known, more challenging features of the game come into play, such as picking the correct club, learning different swings for a variety of shots, and learning how to figure out the course. However, kids golf camps do more than simply form a deep understanding of the game at a young age; they also focus on that key mental element that can take a young person's ability to the next level.

The moment a young camper becomes skilled with the basics is the time when the activity becomes really interesting. How many acclaimed players - even professionals - have choked on an easy putt, or sliced a shot off a tee? The skilled instructors at these golf camps for kids also focus on teaching the psychological self-discipline that keeps a young person's game consistent (and can help them recover after the ball slices off toward the sand). Developing a unique pre-shot routine can help a lot for getting over the first-hole jitters, in addition to taking on the other 17 holes. A good instructor knows this does not simply mean a a small number of steady practice swings, but also includes a real mental preparation for each and every shot.

From tee-off, the flag located at the other side of the green looks a long ways away, and it takes knowledge of the basics and the correct mental attitude to be a skilled player. While summer golf camps are serious about building skills, it is important that the sport is played as much for fun as performance. A lot of life lessons could be learned on the links; after all, with children or with adults, the sport isn't about getting the ball in the hole, but how it arrived there.
