Discover How to Improve Your Golf Swing

By John Maddox

To hit a golf ball with backspin you require four things to occur.

The hands must be ahead of the ball at impact.

The angle of attack must be steep.

You need to have good club head speed.

Lastly you need to be taking a divot ahead of the ball.

In order to keep your hands ahead of the ball don't release your wrists too early. The right wrist must be bent at impact and the left wrist ought to be straight. A good way to ingrain this is to practice taking short swings halfway back and halfway through and looking at where your wrists are on the follow through. If your right wrist is straight at the follow through you have released it too early. Finish with the right wrist bent and the left wrist straight at impact and in the follow through.

In order to get the right angle of attack to hit backspin try to pick up the club steeper in yoru backswing immediately. Make sure your body does not lift up as you pick your club upward sharply or you could hit it thin or fat on impact.

To hit backspin you should swing very fast so that the golf ball can climb up the face of the club head easily. Swing hard and fast so that you can generate more spin.

To take a divot head of the ball it is necessary to shift your weight correctly when it comes to your downswing. To shift properly make sure that your weight shifts onto your front foot before you start your downswing. A good drill to practice this is to put another ball about 3-4 inches directly behind your ball. If you hit the ball that is behind your ball you have not shifted early enough and also have not had a steep enough angle of attack.

Practice these four things so that you will hit backspin with your golf shots.
