Which Clubs Should You Carry?

By Pukka Wright

You can carry 14 different golf clubs in the USGA. A standard set of golf clubs is as follows: 3 woods, a driver, number 3 wood and a number 5 wood. You have 8 irons, numbers 3-9 plus a pitching wedge. The last club in a standard set is a putter. Las Vegas golf courses are just some of the great courses under the USGA.

A golf set makeup helps ensure that a golfer fills their bag with the right 14 clubs. The idea is to get the right mix of clubs all of which are designed to hit the ball different distances. The issue is the some club makers and even golfers stop short of using this function to its potential.

A good golf set makeup will help you replace the hard to use clubs in your set for easier to use clubs, without losing distance. Such changes as a hybrid wood for the long irons. This is the principle behind a golf set makeup.

a) Driver

The driver has the lowest loft of the woods. The loft angle of a driver is anything from 7-12 degrees of loft. For the less experienced golfer the higher loft is better, the lower loft is for the more skilled golfer about.

What is it that stops all golfers being able to hit the golf ball as far a possible? The driver is the club you want to use for distance. The club makers state: "The longer the length, the lower the loft, the heavier the weight and the stiffer the shaft, the harder the club will be to be hit for any golfer". So it takes more skill to be able to use the driver correctly.

The driver does not need to be the number 1 wood. It can be the club that the golfer can hit the ball the longest from the tee. Many club makers are now offering drivers with lofts as high as 15 degrees.

Some golfers have a slow swing speed. For these golfers even a 15 degree loft is not big enough. For these golfers it is best to use a 5 or even 7 wood as their driver, as the loft of these clubs will get the most out of their swing.

b) Fairway Wood

Most people assume that the second longest hitting club is the 3 wood. For many this is the case, but not for all. The 3 wood has a low loft and so some golfers find it hard to get loft and distance. So in these cases a 5 or even a 7 wood maybe the second longest hitting club for some golfers.

So testing your range with a number of clubs will help you improve your game. golf Florida falls under the USGA and so has some great courses.
