Mental And Physical Health For Golf

By Anna Nadette

There are two kinds of Tigers in the world. The first one is Tiger Woods; the other is the Tiger from William Blake's "Tiger Tiger burning bright". The former is Tiger Woods from the world of sports - the World No. 1 in golf, the other is the tiger is from the wild.

Though this sport may look pretty simple; you just have to swing the club and shoot the ball into the put, it requires a fair bit of talent and a lot of patience. Then there is the element of keeping fit as well. The experts say that fitness is the difference between one who comes first and the one who comes in last.

A fit body is essential for well coordinated swings and prevents a physical injury that can result from repetitive action. The key is to become aware of your problems and take prevention actions. Your exercise and training regime should cover cardio-respiratory endurance, a well balanced diet and all the golf specific strengths like motor, balance, and correct body posture.

Cardio-respiratory endurance can be strengthened with aerobic exercise regime. Aerobic exercises should be performed four times every week for half an hour or so. They include cycling, walking, and stepping etc. Cardio respiratory endurance is therefore very good for overall body fitness; you can work more with much less muscle fatigue and burn more calories.

Postural symmetry is very important especially in golf. This is because one side of the body is used more than the other side and it can cause injuries. So a solid body balance program is highly essential in golf.

The other important factor is enhancing the joint flexibility during training. The other areas that need strengthening are the lower back and the muscles in the upper body .This is because it is our legs that produce the force needed for the swing. And this force should be transferred to the upper body through a strong trunk.

Motor learning should be trained in the program. This is done to produce optimized golf swing with the east bit of stress and greater force. Last but not the least a good diet regime is important to maximize the fitness and complement the strenuous exercise regime.
