The Finest Golfing Courses That Can Be Played Inside All Of The Algarve Or Possibly Any Place

By Paul Stubbs

Created by William Roquemore Jr. , Quinta de Cima is really a spectacular 18-hole golf course situated inside the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. There are both the beautiful sceneries of the sea and mountains from anywhere along the course. Many of the holes are dog-legs. Greens are protected by bunkers and lakes particularly the last 3 finishing holes. A stream crosses holes 4, 5, 6 and 13. There will be no real-estate construction on the Quinta de Cima course.

This new sister course to Quinta de Ria is of a championship character that will offer an enjoyable challenge for most players. From the rolling land planted with almond trees it provides open fairways, well-arranged bunkers and enough water to draw in the odd misdirected golf ball. The 1st two holes indicate the real nature on the course emphasizing the requirement for good club selection coupled with accuracy. Players are making their remarks concerning the tricky Par 5 16th hole and the significant eighteenth.

A stream with dams and permanent flowing water crosses holes 4, 5, 6 and 13. The course is bordered to the North by the National Road 125 and spreads to the south where its boundaries were a municipal road that leads to the Quinta de Ria Golf Course.

The greens have been seeded with Bent Crenshaw. Tees and fairways are covered with Zoysia. On one of the Driving Ranges, with its generous dimensions and built-in the South/North direction, when hitting from the northern tees, it's possible to appreciate the breathtaking view of the mountains as well as the Ocean. Though from any part of the course both the sea and the Algarve mountains are a delight to anyone's eyes.

On the other drive range designed for practice with irons, there is the Robinson Golf Academy. It includes 3 greens and 6 tees for the teaching of the different types of game with irons, such as how to get away from a bunker to a green 120 m distant.
