3 Golf Swing Drills To Improve Your Putting

By Jack L Putnum

When you're great at getting the ball on the green, the only thing left to do is figure out your putting. It sounds easy enough; right? Well, some individuals have an extremely hard time, but after you read about these 4 golf swing drills it will be a lot easier.

The one-handed drill should be your first choice. Go grab 10 golf balls and make sure you "only" use the training hand. The idea is to focus on the palm of your hand as it moves towards the cup.

Another option is to putt with your target hand. Doing several repetitions will help you concentrate on the backhand moving forward instead of everywhere else.

A lot of golfers struggle to keep their putter-head straight. Most of the time it will turn to the left or right, but this depends on your motion. Always make sure this is pointing towards the cup during your follow-through, because if its not you're going to push the ball left or right.

Another drill is to practice putting with one eye. Some golfers do this because it stops them from lifting their head prematurely. If you have played this game often, you can even try putting with your eyes closed.

If you feel comfortable trying it (couldn't hurt), practice putting with your eyes closed. This can be extremely beneficial, because it gets rid of the interference you have with the brain/muscle control system when your eyes are open. Closed eyes guide the ball more properly.

When you first start this exercise you will putt with your eyes open. These should range anywhere from 10 to 50 feet in distance. After a few solid strokes you can close your eyes and see what happens.

Try dropping a few balls on the ground and putting them. This can be a huge help when it comes to getting used to the back and forth motion. While this is fun, you still have to do it with your eyes open as well.

Your final drill is the "alignment." It's one of the most used options out there, and with two clubs about 6" apart and parallel to one another, putt the golf ball in between them. You should exhaust your arms and then take a break before resuming again. Eventually your muscles will get used to this motion and it will become a lot easier to do with more consistency.

Practicing some golf swing putting drills like those mentioned will surely help you improve on your game. Who knows? You might even win when you are playing 18 holes with friends. If you can do that at short distances, the only thing to practice on now is your long game because this is just as important as the short game.
