Awesome Golf Courses San Jose And Around The World

By Kristy Mcdonald

When it comes to golf courses San Jose California boasts no fewer than eight. A short drive away, Pebble Beach Resorts, situated on the famous 17-Mile Drive on the Pacific Coast, offers five golf courses. Served by three airports, San Francisco International Airport, Monterey Peninsula Airport and San Jose International Airport, the resort is a short drive from the idyllic Carmel-by-the-Sea, known for its shopping and captivating landscape.

The world's lowest golfing resort is Furnace Creek, in Death Valley, California, 214 feet below sea level. The resort's proximity to Nevada makes a diversion to play the slots a distinct feasibility. Death Valley is also famous for borax and a man named Aaron Winters.

The island of Oahu in the State of Hawaii harbors the scenic golfing resort at Ko-olau. This course is rated by many as the world's toughest. Luaus and drinking exotic cocktails at the Pearl City Monkey Bar are other attractive pastimes.

Back to the continent and north to Alaska is the North Star, the world's coldest green. The average temperature in January is -19 degrees Fahrenheit and a record low of -66.

Altitude acclimatization is recommended before hitting the links at La Paz in Bolivia, the highest course on the planet at between 10,750 to 11,000 feet. La Paz is known as the 'city that touches the sky'.

Ushuaia in Argentina is the most southerly spot on Earth to play nine or eighteen holes. Near to Cape Horn at 55 degrees Latitude, the Club is regularly scoured by strong cold winds.

Alice Springs in Australia bears the distinction of being the world's hottest golfing club. Here in the outback, the average temperature reaches 36.4 degrees Centigrade in the summertime. Alice Springs is also famous for the Henley-on-Todd Regatta, which is run on a dry river.

The North Star in Norway is the world's most northerly club. A dream come true for the most avid golfers, between May and August the greens are open 24 hours each day. Norway is famed for roll mops, fjords and the Northern Lights.

According to Mark Twain, 'Golf is a good walk spoiled.' At the Legends Golf and Safari Resort in South Africa, he might just as well have called the game, 'a good helicopter ride spoiled, ' because that is the only way to reach the tee of the 'Xtreme 19th'. Perched precariously on the edge of a cliff, the golfer whacks the ball down 1400 feet onto the Africa-shaped green below. The first person to hit a hole in one will receive a million dollars.

If you like serene golf courses San Jose is the place to go. For extreme excitement, some travel is required.
