Play Better Golf - Advice for Women

By Judson Kaucher

The game of golf is one that is played by people around the world from a wide range of demographics. However, golf can seem quite complicated to beginners because it seems as if you need to know so many things that it can be extremely difficult to get started. This article will give you great advice for starting out in the game of golf.

If you're really interested in playing golf, you need to buy a set of golf clubs. While you do need a set of clubs, if you have just started out playing, it might be a better option to rent clubs because you never know whether or not you will like the game. Once you decide to buy your own clubs it is in your best interest to consider making an investment in your game by buying gloves that are professionally fitted for you. It is essential that women interested in the game of golf have a proper club fitting as they will need clubs that are shorter than the average man. Additionally, women generally prefer lighter clubs, such as those made of graphite and they tend to require a grip that isn't too thick.

Professional fitted clubs will ensure that your clubs are the best possible match for your size, your stroke, and the way you play the game of golf.

Concentrate on your alignment to improve your game. Your game won't be successful regardless of how far you can hit the ball if you can't get it to head for the fairway instead of the woods. Typically golfers won't even look to see the direction they are headed when they aim and swing that shot. This is an easy issue to overcome, slow down, stop and look where you are and where you want the ball to be. Focus on the spot where you want the ball to go and the rest of your body will follow you automatically.

You must learn to control your reactions and emotions if you want to be a great golfer. Women tend to put great importance on feelings, whereas men do not. Men are able to find a sense of calm after a bad stroke where women are normally rattled by it and have a strong tendency to make another one (or more) on top of it. When women rush, and fail to set the next shot up properly, they have a tendency for the second shot to be even worse than the first.

Improve your game by leaps and bounds by purchasing a set of clubs professionally fitted for you once you've decided to make that leap. Don't put the cart before the horse however, these clubs are expensive and you shouldn't jump into buying clubs until you're sure it's a sport you'll continue with long term. Dont make the mistake of purchasing something that's only going to mock you later as it collects dust in the corner. Until you know for sure it's best to rent or borrow clubs or perhaps try locating a set from a garage sale or second hand shop. Once you've figured out that you actually like the sport your can then invest in a more custom set.

Once you understand these basics, you'll see that golf really isn't all that hard. But, you should expect to spend a lot of time practicing to become one of the greats.
