Increasing Your Swing Power - Unleashing Your Potential

By Darren Neil

Ever get the cringe when you approach a par 5 hole? You know you're not going to make the green in 4 because of the lack of distance from your golf swing power.

As impossible as it may sound, you can actually get those swings to generate more power, but the key is actually not in the amount of sheer strength you might have.

So if you're looking for swing power tips, read on to pick up some tips you can immediately use!

Strength, as strange as it may sound, is not the deciding factor of whether your ball will land in the 150 yards zone or the 200 yards zone using the same clubs. How do we know? Think about those playing this game, virtually all walks of life from as young as a child to as old as a senior citizen playing golf as their hobby, and do you think that they necessarily have a weaker shot than you do?

On the other hand, the one thing that is really creating the distance is actually known as the whip effect, which is generated by your golf shaft. This is because your golf shaft is usually very flexible, and when you swing back and forth momentum are generated and transferred into energy for the distance. Therefore improving your game does not lie in getting stronger; instead what you should be looking to improve on is how well you know how to create this effect.

One of the best way to do so is actually find a club which have more flex, as such more momentum will built up everytime you swing at it. However, you must also take into consideration of your physical strength as sometimes a club with less flex can be beneficial to you, depending on your physical strength.

If you are someone who is relatively strong physically, you might actually do better with a shaft with lesser flex, this way you can control your swing and where the ball are headed. There is actually no guideline in terms of how much flex you should have, as such the best way to find out is actually testing it. You should aim to combine both in order to maximize your capabilities.

Another very important when trying to get more distance is to never force your brute strength on the ball, not only you will lose your body balance, you also exert more effort in every swing and essentially tiring you out faster.

If you can not control the way your swing land, you can not control the accuracy of your ball! Golf swing plane alone is enough to generate the distance if you use the right club, just remember to transfer the energy over to the ball by cocking your wrist slightly before your ball contact!

For beginners sometimes the best way to play this game is to control your accuracy instead of your golf swing power. When you have the the fundamentals, the distance will follow itself.
